PADDYS WEEKEND ENDS ON A HIGH
SKB 4-1 JOEYS
Paddy's weekend certainly ended on a high for our Sunday team as they defeated Joeys out in Sallynoggin in what was, to date, their most important fixture. Having thrown away a 2 goal lead in the home fixture our lads were well on their guard today and it showed from the kick off. Our lads got out of the traps quickly and had 2 or 3 good attempts on goal within the first 2/3 minutes and it showed Joeys that we were certainly up for a battle.
The opening goal came form some very good play by Sam Ennis who showed great vision to lay a ball inside to Sean Ryan, who in turn found Stein 'Ryan Giggs' Sheridan on the left and he produced some excellent footwork to shift the ball out of his feet and fired an unstoppable shot past a very good Joeys goalkeeper. The trademark airplane celebration was just as good!!
Going in at the break 1-0 up was encouraging but it was vital that we got the next goal and the lads were told this at half time. However, some intense Joeys pressure led to an equaliser when a daisy cutter of a corner was sent in (which had a tornado-like wind behind it!!!) and much to his surprise, it bounced off Conor Ennis' leg and went into the net. However, this didn't deter Conor at all and he went on to make some very important and crucial tackles to keep us in the game, as did his partner at the back Harry O'Byrne who put in a fine performance after coming into a very tense game. Another fine performance came from Brandon Curtis who put in probably the most important tackle of the game, 2 yards off his goal line to keep the scores tied at 1-1.
Soon after, Joe Manley went on a mazy run through the Joeys half which resulted in him cutting by the last Joeys defender and side footing the ball into the back of the net much to the delight of the away support to make it 2-1. Not long after, Steino added another fine goal having jinxed his way through the defence and added another goal to his ever growing tally to make it 3-1. The result was put beyond doubt when the ball broke to Joe again in the box and he added his second of the game too to make it 4-1. With that the final whistle went and another classy performance was given by the Saints which adds another 3 points to the board and brings us another game closer to our target.
