A FIVE STAR SUNDAY

ST KEVINS 5, VERONA 0

THE Sunday team got back on track today with a 5-star performance at home to Verona in Coolgreena today.

However, one particular performance was singled out by the coaches today - that of Ian Brunton.

He made two magnificent saves at vital times during the game. First came a great one on one save at 0-0 to keep us in the game and then the second save was made at the feet of the Verona striker, then cleared from the line by Brandon Curtis when we had gone 1-0 up following a great ball in from Joe Manley and a cool finish from David O'Hanlon.

The lads kept the tempo up in the second half and added a 2nd when a ball broke out to Brandon Curtis and he fired it past the keeper from outside the box.

Sean Ryan made it 3-0 after battling his way past a few players outside the area then rolling the ball by the keeper.

Sam Ennis got a well deserved goal following a tough display to make it 4-0 and the 5th was fired in by Joe Manley.

Joe's goal is still debatable as he meant it as a cross, which turned out to be an excellent one, and then took a deflection. But the coaches agreed it should go to Joe as long as he splits the €5.

SATURDAY JUST ONE WIN AWAY

St Kevins 12, Stella Maris 0

The Saturday team are just one game away from winning the Saturday 7A1 section outright following this comprehensive dismantling of Stella.

The boys did it in style the league in style to at our new home pitch in Coolgreena. The game was played in great conditions and our lads put the work in that was needed to keep on track for the 7A1 title.

There was far too many good performances across the team just to pin one down, so the Man of the Match goes to the whole squad.

It was well deserved as all 10 have been fantastic over the season. Lets hope all the good work counts after Christmas when we start off in the Sat 7A.

Scorers on the day on were Adam Duffy(3), Jamie O'Brien(3), Robert Dunne(3), Jamie Casserly, Jordan Brady and Josh Anyaegbunam. Hopefully I haven't left anybody out!!

TOUGH WORKOUT

SKB 1-1 PHEONIX
It was a tough workout this morning for the Saturday team as they faced up to Pheonix in the freindly game in Ellenfield Park. Having played each other twice already this season and being paired together again Pheonix kindly offered to fulfill the fixture in a freindly capacity. The condition of the pitch restricted both sides from playing any form of free flowing football. This has been a common problem for our lads this season and has been brought up with the club folllowing a number of games. It eas observed today that the grass on the pitch was 3-4 inches higher than it was around the perimiter. However, as regards the game, both teams tried there best with what they had and it was great to see young Josh Anyaegbunam getting on the end of an excellent team move and crashing a 15-yard strike into the back of the net. The lead was only held for a shortwhile though, as following a great save from goalkeeper on the day Robert Dunne and an excellent goalline clearance from Aaron Malone, the Pheonix right midfielder stuck in a very finely taken goal from a tight angle. Both teams created chances to win the game, including a last gasp chance from an Evan Ruddell corner which nearly went straight over the line!! But on reflection a draw was a fair result and it keeps both teams going for another week.

SATURDAY CLINCH PROMOTION

ASHWOOD 0, ST KEVINS 9
CONGRATULATIONS to our Saturday side who clinched promotion to the Sat 7A league after christmas, with a classic display against Ashwood which saw them run out 9-0 winners.

A lot of work has been put in by Fran, Paul, Matthew and rob and its good to see this work paying off. Goals on the day came from Jamie Casserly(4), Robert Dunne(3), Paul Pettigrew and Jordan Brady.

We can now expect plenty more tough games for the lads after Christmas but we all know that they will be able to put it up to any of the big guns in the A.
