SAINTS STUN SAINTS IN FRIENDLY DERBY

Today we took the short, well in the end it was, trip from Ellenfield Park down to Ribh Road to face St.Paul's 7s in a friendly. Starting the game in such poor weather had an effect on our lads in the first few mins, as it took our lads a bit longer than usual to get settled in some areas. However, saying that, it didn't take Stein Sheridan too long to get going as he rocketed the opening goal for the saints inside the first two mins, and then went on to net a hat-trick before the full time whistle.

From then on in there wasn't going to be too much trouble for our lads and so it proved to be as we ended up winning 7-0, but following some intense deliberation, it was decided to allow Robert Kane's last minute goal to stand, thus making it 8-0. Following the full time whistle, myself and Paul told the lads how pleased we were with the performance on the day, but at the same time expressed to them that they should not get too carried away following the recent good results. As, from previous experience, the coaches could tell you that having the most prepared team in the league, still doesn't guarantee that things will got to plan on matchday. But all we can ask for is that the players keep up their enthusiasm and their workrate and then things will be a whole lot easier for all involved.

Squad on the day: Ian Brunton, Sean Ryan, Brandon Curtis(c), Stein Sheridan, Joe Manley, Sam O'Callaghan, Jamie Casserley, Josh Anyaegbunam, Jordan Brady, Robert Dunne, Sam Ennis, Robert Kane and Jamie O'Brien

Scorers were: Jamie Casserley(2)-Stein Sheridan(3)-Robert Dunne-Robert Kane and Sean Ryan

SUMMER TRAINING

WHILE the Under-7 squad co-ordinator Matthew Nugent takes "a well-earned break" in the south of Spain, Rob, Paul and Frances Tyrrell will labour on over the coming weeks with training.

Unless you hear otherwise, training will take place as follows:

Thursdays 6.30pm SHARP: Ellenfield
Saturday's 11.30pm SHARP: Ellenfield
Some of the training sessions will be replaced with friendlies if and when they can be organised. Please check back regularly.
We must say hello to Frances who will be helping with the coaching over the next few weeks. Frances hopes to take up a position with our coaching staff - provided it doesn't clash with her son's games for the Under 8s.
Useful numbers:
Rob Harvey: 085 147 4929
Paul Doody: 085 100 4853
Frances Tyrell: 087 292 7568

PAUL DOODY

WE are pleased to announce that Paul Doody (the much better looking of the Doody twins!) has joined our coaching staff.

Paul, an accomplished central defender, will more than likely be part of the Saturday squad staff.

We wish him well and look forward to seeing him become a leading coach in the club over the coming years.

NO WALKOVER DOWN MILL LANE

Thursday, July 20
PALMERSTOWN RGRS 1 ST KEVINS 3
THREE well-taken goals (courtesy of Stein Sheridan, Sean Ryan and Evan Ruddell) helped our Under-7s to a well-deserved victory in the idyllic settings of the Mill Lane bowl on Thursday evening.
Maybe a very game Palmerstown deserved a little more for their second-half performance - but if we had punished them when we had so much of the play in the first 20 minutes then this game would have been out of sight by half-time.
Long passages of our play was very impressive, with fluid movement from the back right through to attack, with some very crisp passing and inventive play.
Overall, a good result with some excellent performances and the basis of a very good Saturday and Sunday squad.
SQUAD: Jordan Brady, Robert Dunne, Ian Brunton, Robert Kane, Joe Manley, Jamie O'Brien, Evan Ruddell, Sean Ryan and Stein Sheridan.

ASHBOURNE FEEL THE HEAT!

By Rob Harvey

The sun was certainly shining in Ashbourne on Saturday afternoon for the first outing of the Under 7’s.

Taking out a panel of 15 turned out to be a good omen as we were always going to tire in the heat, so the constant introduction of fresh legs helped to keep us going.

In the end the game turned out to be very one-sided, as we ran out comfortable winners.

I lost count at seven - but was informed by some of the players that it had reached 20 or so. There were many good displays on the day and it was great for us to see all the players gelling together so quickly.

So it is hoped in the next few weeks that we will be able to playtwo teams in a friendly as it will be unfair to have 18 out on the line for each friendly.

A very satisfactory trip for all who were present and we hope that the lads can churn out some more of those unbeatable performances in the years to come.
